I am a
video essayist and painter based in Chicago, IL. My work
addresses contemporary neurosis through a mix of humor, care, and speculative
fiction. Keen to produce multiple ways of combining writing with image, I
experiment with a variety of mediums (illustration, moving image, published
text) to carry meaning. Found materials play a frequent role in my practice. I
learn from the play within unexpected collage both formally and
conceptually.
Ecological
concerns and media studies inform my research paths as I latch onto simple
motifs and attempt to exhaust their associations. Most recently, my research
has orbited representations and resonances of the screaming human face. This
body of work speaks to human interaction with hazard: the upkeep of
geoengineered landscapes, engineered meaning, and the predictions of
emotion-recognition softwares into deep time...
